The idea of having a scientific body for the separation scientists and technologists in India was conceived during the concluding DAE-BRNS symposium on “Emerging Trends in Separation Science & Technology (SESTEC)” in 2004. Subsequently, during 2006 an Ad-Hoc committee was set up under the leadership of Dr. V.K. Manchanda, Head, Radiochemistry Division in 2006 and the Association of Separation Scientists and Technologists (ASSET) was formally registered in 2008. The main activities of the Association are:

1. To organize symposia / seminars / theme meetings
2. To bring out thematic bulletins
3. To encourage young researchers through support and prizes

In a short span of 3 years, ASSET has gained confidence of leading researchers from India as well as abroad.
